Prescriptions for a Healthy America (P4HA) had a successful trip to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, presenting to the Council of State Governments West (CSG West) chapter on policies that states can adopt to improve outcomes and adherence and reduce overall health costs. After P4HA’s presentation to Oregon earlier this year, Oregon State Senator Steiner Hayward invited P4HA President, Joel White, to speak to other western states during the healthcare policy committee meeting. The presentation (click here for a copy of the powerpoint) included policy recommendations in three key buckets:
- Measurement: Where is your state on adherence levels?
- Coordination: Link medical and pharmacy claims data to enable identification of beneficiaries at high risk for mismanaging their medications and repeat hospital visits.
- Tools & Services: The state should provide the tools and services necessary to assist beneficiaries in properly managing their medications (i.e. synchronization, MTM, CMM, electronic prior authorization, long-term fills)
Idaho State Representative Kelley Packer said:
“…thank you for your presentation on medication adherence. I learned things that I’ll be working on in my state”
